doing good within the community

The Tsunami Fund was sponsored by Western Union Money Transfer, Sri Lanka. A real-model of the thirsty crow fable where for every coin dropped in, the water level would rise a little. Brilliant way to do a little charity work as well as advertise.

1990 ads

An ad from the 1990s for Western Union:

Their 1990 "Everybody Needs Somebody" commercial:

Must've been some of the greater commercials back in the 90's. However, I have found it harder to find more recently produced ones. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that that they are overwhelmed their own growth and busy opening up new locations. If you didn't catch it, in the second commercial, they mentioned 16,000 locations. Comparing 16,000 locations then with 300,000 locations now, they are averaging 16,705 new locations each year for the last 17 years! Now I wouldn't mind owning a few company shares.

take them to the beach

I came across the image of Western Union foam slippers. When I tried doing an online search for images of other Western Union merchandise, no luck.

This seems to be more of an advertising product rather than something that people would purchase for practical use.

Western Union Telegraph Company now in Nova Scotia

This is an 1893 newspaper article that was placed in the Belcher's Farmer's Almanac stating the service provided to Nova Scotians. Interesting read.

can't hurt to err on the safe side

Western Union is doing its part in taking the necessary precautions to halt possible terrorist money transfers. As ABC News reports, they have blocked transfers from senders and receivers with names such as Mohammed and Ahmed.
